MIRI: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni distributed a total of RM300,000 in state government grants to various associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in his constituency in the last two days.

Yesterday, nine NGOs including schools’ Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) received the grants.

“This is part of the initiative by the state government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to help the rakyat,” he said.

He hoped the NGOs would find the financial grant useful in funding their activities.

He said the state government has many other financial initiatives with which to help the people in the state.

“Under the leadership of our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, we have the Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS), and starting (January) this year, mothers of newborn babies will each receive RM450 in the form of vouchers to ease their financial burden,” he said during the presentation of the grants at his party service centre in Taman Tunku here.

He said for students, Yayasan Sarawak (Sarawak Foundation) has agreed to subsidise Bumiputera students’ study fees at Swinburne Sarawak and Curtin University.

“Those who wish to further their studies in these two universities can apply for the subsidy from Yayasan Sarawak,” he said.
