KUCHING: The Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project reflects both real progress in Sarawak’s modernisation, not just in public transport but also in the mentality of Sarawakians, said Datuk Peter Minos.

The chairman of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) said the project ushers in new industries such as the production and use of hydrogen and solar panels for energy.

“The launching was done by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today and just imagine that this is the first project of its kind in Sarawak and the people of Kota Samarahan will be the first to use ART by early 2025. It may not have been in the people’s imagination earlier on but now it is becoming a reality.

“MPKS and the people of Kota Samarahan are overjoyed that Sarawak Metro of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (ART project) has finally launched its ART project at Rembus, Kota Samarahan,” he said in a press release issued today (Dec 16).

He noted that ART will make thousands of students’ lives easier and better at University Sarawak Malaysia (UNIMAS) and UITM.

“Numerous things in Kota Samarahan will be transformed for the better…less traffic congestion, housing and businesses springing up around the ART stations, parking problems reduced and so on.

“ART is a kind of a game changer for Samarahan.”

He went on to express his gratitude to the Premier for all that had happened and for initiating all the new ideas and ways.
