KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Belaga Research Station, which conducts agronomy and research activities, has been closed and its staff members have been transferred to the MPOB Sessang Research Station.

The MPOB Belaga Research Station is located in the sub-district of Sungai Asap, Belaga, about 155 km from Bintulu Town, and was established in 2009 under the Ninth Malaysia Plan.

The station, with a complex area of 6.252 hectares, began operating in 2012.

In a statement today, MPOB director-general Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir said the transfer to the Sessang Research Station is among MPOB’s measures to save costs for the management which took into consideration the maintenance of the Belaga Station due to its topography and low fresh fruit bunch yield.

However, the operation of the Palm Oil Guidance and Advisory office at the MPOB Belaga Research Station will be open two days a week to serve smallholders in the area around Sungai Asap, said the statement. – BERNAMA
