SRI AMAN: A fatal two-vehicle accident that occurred in Stirau area, Jalan Sri Aman-Linggaon here, yesterday (Apr 15), is alleged to have been triggered by the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) skidding out of control and collided head-on with the cement-mixer lorry.

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said investigations are being carried outunder Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The MPV carrying three individuals was travelling to Lingga from Sri Aman.

“It is believed that the vehicle went out of control and veered into the opposite lane before colliding with the oncoming lorry.

“As a result, the lorry crashed into the roadside ditch and the MPV was dragged to the left side of the road,” he said in a statement.

Mathew said the accident led to the death of the MPV’s driver and a passenger, identified as 56-year-old Joll Mohamad and 62-year-old Latifah Mohamad, who were siblings.

Their bodies were taken to Sri Aman Hospital for post-mortem procedures.

Meanwhile, a second passenger in the MPV was seriously injured and she was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.

He added that the lorry driver, a 43-year-old man, was lightly injured in the accident and he was also taken to the hospital for further medical attention.
