SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch’s dream to have an additional ambulance is close to coming true.

Its chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee said MRCS Sibu needs around RM200,000 for the ambulance and has raised RM180,000 in donations from three beneficiaries.

“We need around RM20,000 more. So, I think we will get our ambulance very soon. We will get two quotations from Toyota Sibu and Kuching,” he said.

“We are still considering whether we should get a new ambulance with simple facilities or get a second-hand ambulance completely equipped with facilities. We will seek advice from medical personnel.”

Chua said this after the opening ceremony of World MRCS Day officiated by Bukit Assek Assemblyman Joseph Chieng at its headquarters here, yesterday (May 7).

He said MRCS Sibu is in dire need of an additional ambulance not only to cater to the needs of an increasing town population, but also because they have been using an ambulance donated by a company for almost 18 years now.

“We need a new ambulance because that one is quite old. Nowadays, we have two or three activities clashing together. We only have one ambulance. So, it is better to have another unit,” he said.

He hoped any individual who is willing to donate some funds to MRCS Sibu will come forward.

“Like I said whether big or small, every bit of help to MRCS Sibu is very appreciated,” he said.
