MRSM Betong students to represent Malaysia at International Robot Olympiad

KUCHING: Two students from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Betong will represent Malaysia and showcase their innovative robot creation project at the 25th International Robot Olympiad in Athens, Greece next week.

President of Muafakat MRSM Betong, Henry Jugah, said this is the first time the Form 4 students, Chrisezra Ason Bert Wellington and Catriona Siaw Cun Yun will be representing the country on the global stage.

“The students will be presenting their project named, ST-TERRERBOT: Controlled via IOT Integrated with Safety Tracked Monitoring System,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

In preparation for their competition, Henry said the students will be specially flown to Peninsular Malaysia on Monday (Jan 8) and be undergoing training at the MRSM Bentong, Pahang from Jan 10 to 14 before heading to Greece.

“We have extended our support by providing the essential equipment required for the competition, totalling RM5,000 and it is facilitated through Muafakat MRSM Betong,” he said.

Henry added the students’ physics teacher Amran Tura, will be accompanying the students during their trip to Greece from Jan 15 to 20.

“Through Muafakat MRSM Betong, each student has been provided RM500 as pocket money.

“Additionally, the travel expenses amounting to RM8,000 for the accompanying teacher has also been covered,” he said.

In addition to that, he said the school has sought additional support from Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Expressing optimism and encouragement, Henry conveyed his prayers for the students’ success.

“Together with the Muafakat MRSM Betong’s EXCO, we pray and look forward for their victory.

“We truly hope that their victory will not only bring pride to Betong, Sarawak, but also as a source of pride for Malaysia as a whole,” he said.

Previously, the students had secured a silver medal for their project in the IOT Creative Category during the National-level MRSM Robo Challenge 2023 which was held at MRSM Bentong, Pahang.
