BETONG: Entrepreneurs should register their businesses and utilise modern strategies to promote growth.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) adviser to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said there is nothing to stop anyone from doing business without a permit or company registration.

“It is indeed possible to trade, for example, on the side of the road, but it is difficult to progress if it is not registered,” he said.

“If there is a permit and a registered company, you can apply for government assistance or loans to expand the business and also follow various courses provided by the relevant agency.

“We are therefore bringing this Business Registration programme everywhere to make it easier for our entrepreneurs to register their businesses, in addition to exposing them to government assistance or loans.”

He said this at the Betong Division level launching of the programme on behalf of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at the Betong Division Resident Office, yesterday.

Similarly, he said, if there is no permit, it is difficult to rent business premises.

Naroden also urged entrepreneurs to adapt to new ways.

“The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are still being felt but from a positive point of view, it has changed the way people live, including doing business.

“Fortunately our government is strong and stable so that it is able to help the people with an expenditure of RM6.7 billion.

“Now we have recovered and it is time for us to rise in a new way. Every business entity should not be tied to the old ways so adopt the latest technology to develop your respective businesses,” he said.

He added that the ministry and agencies provide various forms of assistance and loans to entrepreneurs in Sarawak.

The Betong Division Business Registration Programme organised by the ministry in collaboration with the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), the Resident Office and the Betong District Office attracted the participation of 232 entrepreneurs.

Naroden performed a symbolic presentation of the USTEV grant to the recipient’s representative at the Betong Division Business Register Friday here, yesterday.
