KUCHING: The appointment of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Malaysia’s eighth Prime Minister will bring back international confidence in the nation’s policy and governance, said Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

He said it was important for international communities to have confident and trust in the country’s government.

“We need a prime minister to get our nation on track, especially our economy, business, administration and welfare,” said Henry, who is also Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice-president.

Hence, he said it was a wise move for the Agong to have appointed Muhyiddin as Prime Minister, to replace Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Henry was commenting on the public’s criticism hurled at Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for supporting the appointment of Muhyiddin, thus opening opportunities for PAS to spread its ideology to Sarawak.

Sarawakians, especially non-Muslims, have expressed concern about PAS, especially regarding Islamic laws.

“As far as I’m concerned and understand, based on what I read in the newspapers, GPS stance is crystal clear…that we support Muhyiddin to become prime minister.

“We don’t become part of the Perikatan Nasional government where Umno and PAS are allied to,” said Henry.

In other words, he said GPS wanted to save the nation from a dilemma of “no government without a prime minister”.
