SIBU: Murals on the walls of old buildings located at Jalan Ramin here will become tourism attractions in Sibu.

This was revealed by Assistant Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government II Michael Tiang Ming Tee at the launch of the murals yesterday.

He said he would apply for funds from the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to further develop the buildings in the area with mural paintings.

“We will develop it as one of the new domestic tourism locations in Sibu through the production of mural paintings at the walls of the buildings.

“We want to breathe new life into the old buildings here without demolishing them,” he explained.

Tiang, who is Pelawan assemblyman, said that with such an effort, he was confident that it would be able to create another new attraction in Sibu for tourists or a place for young people to gather.

He noted that owners of the buildings had welcomed the idea of painting them with murals.

“It will definitely have a more cheerful impact as this mural painting is a new attraction,” he said.

He said the mural painting project was the work of a local artist, Aries Kong a.k.a Jagung, which was completed in early February.
