KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has called upon Muslims, especially the younger generations in Sarawak, to continue contributing to the progress of the state.

He emphasised the need for them to work hand in hand with those around them to bring development to the state.

“As we all know, the situation is constantly changing, and today it is driven by technology. Therefore, we must emphasize the use of technology in the development of the state,” he said in his speech at the opening ceremony of ‘Muktamar Masjid-Masjid Serantau 1444 Hijrah/2023,’ which was held at a hotel here yesterday (July 5).

Abang Johari, who is also the Minister of Finance and New Economy, noted that the modern world poses other challenges such as climate change.

“As such, Muslims must also contribute their efforts to mitigate the threats of climate change to the environment,” he said.

On a related note, he urged the Muslims in the state to continue their charitable works, such as developing schools, sending children to obtain knowledge, building mosques, and managing them with full discipline according to the teachings of Islam.

“Therefore, in this matter, we must also obtain knowledge from our neighboring countries on how they manage their mosques and undertake dakwah (religious outreach), while they can also learn from us,” he said.

It is important to note that the Premier’s call for the use of technology in the development of the state is an indication of the growing importance of technology in today’s world.

The younger generations in Sarawak must embrace technology and use it to drive progress in the state.

Additionally, the Premier’s emphasis on the need to mitigate the threats of climate change highlights the urgent need to address the environmental challenges faced by the state and the world at large.
