MySRBN’s internet connectivity drive for rural areas

KUCHING: The Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) is set to launch its connectivity drive this week, targeting rural and remote communities in Lundu and Bau.

The initiative will provide essential internet access to areas that have traditionally been underserved in terms of digital connectivity.

The schedule for the drive includes the following locations: Dewan Kampung Pasir Tengah, Lundu on Nov 15; Balairaya Kampung Padang Pan, Bau on Nov 16; and Balairaya Kampung Serayan Baru, Lundu on Nov 17.

Each session will run from 12 noon to 2 pm.

According to Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) in a statement today, the MySRBN will use fixed wireless access (FWA) technology on existing and new infrastructures to provide up to 30 Mbps of unlimited internet access.

“The overarching goal is to propel Sarawak into becoming a digitally advanced and inclusive society.

“With over 15,000 registered MySRBN users from 217 locations throughout Sarawak, the innovative solution has helped to uplift the lives of underserved community.

“The high-speed broadband connectivity has enabled online access to educational resources, e-commerce, telemedicine, entertainment, thus fostering growth and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Sarawak.

“MySRBN has also stimulated economic growth in Sarawak by creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs to engage in online businesses and facilitated access educational resources to allow rural students to receive quality education,” it said.

SDEC highlighted the Sarawak government’s commitment to continue providing free high-speed internet through this fully subsidised initiative.

“Covering an extensive area of approximately 124,450 square kilometres with diverse landscape including rainforests, mountains, rivers, and coastal areas, connectivity issues present a unique set of obstacles for the government to address,” it said.

To register as a MySRBN user, individuals can download the MySDEC app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Huawei AppGallery and complete the registration process directly through the app.
