KUCHING: Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd has chipped in RM20,000 for the upcoming Kuching Festival Martial Arts Display and Kuching Zumba Fiesta.

Both events are set to take place on Aug 12 and 19 respectively at the State Hockey Stadium here.

The donation was handed over during a press conference to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng by the company’s general manager Ching Chun Keat today at the MBKS complex.

“The Kuching Festival Martial Arts Display is expected to feature 1010 martial art exponents showcasing various skills, including wushu, taichi, silat, judo, silambam, muay thai, wing chun kuen, boxing, kuntau, tempur tanpa senjata by the Malaysian Armed Force (ATM), and taekwondo.

“The display aims to promote cultural diversity and unity among the people, especially the youth,” said Wee.

He said the Kuching Zumba Fiesta is expected to be attended by approximately 5,000 participants.

During the press conference, Cr. Judy Kho announced that the Kuching Festival will also include the 9th edition of the Folk Dance, aiming at “infusing more life and vibrancy into the festivities”.

The chairwomen of the Folk Dance said the event, scheduled for Aug 6 at the State Hockey Stadium, will feature 645 performers from 26 local teams and 11 invited teams from Lawas, Miri, Kelantan, Sabah, Bintulu, Sibu, and Sri Aman.

“The primary goal of the Folk Dance is to foster greater understanding and goodwill among people through wholesome physical exercise.

“It serves as a platform to unite individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures and promoting unity through folk dancing while encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

“Furthermore, throughout the Folk Dance event, a series of activities will be conducted, and dedicated instructors will guide participants, aiming to actively engage the public and add more vibrancy to the festivities,” said Kho.

The 35th edition of the annual Kuching Food Festival from July 28 to Aug 20 will feature 17 activities and one of them will feature a Kuching Creative City Pavilion to showcase the culinary heritage of Kuching.
