KUCHING: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has been urged to come up with a simpler and stable system in place of the Identity Management System (IDME) which has been troubling teachers.

Sarawak Teacher’ Union president Kullin Djayang said this in reference to the Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek’s declaration that the system has a problem and needs a rapid fix.

She temporarily closed IDME in order to enhance it.

“Because they have encountered a variety of challenges when filling out data, teachers who utilise IDME have voiced their grievances to the MoE. Don’t increase the workload for teachers, who already have a lot of additional responsibilities at the school,” he said.

“The MoE should exercise greater caution when selecting the online system to be utilised, so that teachers may enter data more efficiently and systematically.

“They (MoE) should also enhance the existing server in order to launch the online procedure again, so that it is not congested and there is no difficulty if the teachers store data online simultaneously.”

Kullin said if the nation is serious about tackling the challenge of providing world-class education, things like this should not happen.

He stated that the IDME system has been nothing but difficult to operate due to numerous repetition and stages of filling in student’ data and grades, imploring the minister to come up with a simpler and stable system.

“Nothing wrong if MoE enhances the current system rather than bringing in a brand-new problematic system like IDME,” he said.

The STU urged the government to enlighten the teachers burden, specifically relating to online data filling so that teachers have more time to continue to focus on their duties of teaching in the classroom.

If teachers are constantly being tasked with various tasks of filling data online via a problematic system, then more of them will encounter burn out at a young age due to work pressure, he said.

“And this is not yet including the teachers’ efforts of catching up with the State Education Departments (JPN) and District Education Offices (PPD) closing date demands, it is certain that the teachers’ pressure has reached its peak,” he added.
