Newly-launched magazine to highlight Padawan

KUCHING: Sarawak plans to place newly-launched Borneo Heights Destination magazine in the state’s own airline as one of the ways to promote Padawan.

Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the magazine will also be distributed to hotels all over Sarawak.

“The publication of this magazine is part of and parcel of our tourism master plan to promote Padawan as a tourist attraction and Sarawak as a whole.

“It is also a tool for promotion and acts as a strategic platform for marketing as it will boost small and medium businesses surrounding the area.

“As such, I humbly urge all tourism players to promote this magazine to tourists, both local and international,” he said during the launching of the magazine here on Wednesday (Dec 6).

On another note, the Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road) said only several chosen areas in Borneo Heights such as its homestays, camping sites, Bengoh Dam and Anna Rais were highlighted in the first volume of the magazine.

“As time goes by, we will highlight other aspects of tourism in Borneo Heights such as sports tourism, adventure tourism and others.”

Meanwhile, during a press conference after the launching of the magazine, creative director cum editor of the magazine, Associate Professor Dr Qistina Donna Lee said two magazines are expected to be published annually.

“Depending on the support from the state government, most importantly the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP).

“Plus, if we are able to secure more funding and grants, we will surely be able to release more volumes of the magazine just like BorneoTalk,” she added.
