KUCHING: Thirteen units of Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR1M) at Kampung Sungai Midin here were handed over to their respective owners, yesterday.

The houses were built using the Industrial Building System (IBS) and the handing over ceremony was for the first phase of the project.

The second and third phases will be handed over by the end of this month and in August, respectively.

“We will handover 15 more units for phase two while another 24 more units in the third (final) phase. The total units of RMR1M at Kampung Sungai Midin is 52 units.

“By the end of August, every unit should already be handed over to the rightful owners,” said Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali in an interview after handing over mock keys to 13 owners of the RMR1M.

The total cost of the RMR1M project is RM3,536,000 million while the government subsidised a total of RM1,040,000 million from the total cost.

Hasidah added that the house owners were selected with the cooperation of the local community and organisations such as Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB).

“The interview was essential to understand the owner’s capacity to pay back the house with a monthly installment of RM150. It can be paid up to 32 years and may be given to the owner’s next of kin if something were to happen to the owner.

“We hope that once the whole project is handed over, the owners will work together to look after the security, cleanliness and the surroundings of the housing area,” Hasidah said.
