KUCHING: Hundreds turned up to witness the official launch of the 29th Kuching City Day Celebration that was held at Stadium Perpaduan here yesterday.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg praised the efforts done by both Kuching City South Council (MBKS) and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) in helping to make Kuching a city that is for the people.

“Kuching has been acknowledged as a City of Unity as it is one of the cities that can instil a sense of kinship among the people who live peacefully together despite the differences in race and religion.

“For this, I say congratulations to both MBKS and DBKU for what they have done to help make Kuching a city that is people-friendly, beautiful, clean, and safe,” he said.

The Chief Minister also applauded efforts made by the both of them to serve the people through the utilisation of technology.

“It will be easier to communicate with the people of Kuching with this because it makes us closer to them.

“Therefore, I say thank you to them for wanting to bring digitalisation to the forefront to make the people and the government closer,” he said.

He added that the efforts by MBKS and DBKU will compliment the state government’s own efforts in transforming Kuching, such as through the proposed  Light Rail Transit (LRT).

“We want to transform the city into one that is unique and people-friendly.

“So I say thank you to both MBKS and DBKU for their cooperation in working together to be able to transform Kuching towards the era of digitalisation,” he said.

Also present during the event were State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, MBKS Mayor Dato James Chan, and DBKU Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
