7th Sarawak Malay Cultural Seminar expects 800 participants

KUCHING:  Some 800 people comprising various levels of the Malays-Muslim communities from throughout Sarawak will be participating in the 7th Sarawak Malay Cultural  Seminar 2018 to be held at Pullman Hotel here from the 29-31 October.

Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) according to its General Manager Datu Dr Hj Sanib bin Hj Said at a press conference yesterday, has been tasked by State Government  to organise the seminar in conjunction with the 7th Sarawak Culture  Symposium  in December  this year.

“We are expecting about 800 participants  to attend the seminar  from throughout Sarawak and we are inviting non-governmental organisations (NGOs) , Malay Associations from each  division and district in the State such as Lawas, Limbang, Sri Aman and Betong.

“The participants will include community leaders, professionals such as engineers, architects, academicians,   university  students, youth groups and women groups and all level of the community will be involved.

“The aim is we want to listen to the voices of the Malay communities from the  various fields  on how to develop the Malay community, to resolve the problems faced by the Malay community,  to  receive their views and suggestions,  and to  develop the Malay community in various aspects,” Sanib, who is also the organising committee chairman  told a press conference at Rumah Laksamana, Jalan Rodway here yesterday.

He said the seminar with the theme “Managing Culture in the Digital Era” will be divided into eight categories of forums namely History, Religion and Culture, Politics, Education, Economy,  Social, Rural Development, Sarawak Malays/Muslim Leadership and Perspective and the Role of Sarawak Malay Youths.

For each of the eight forums, there will be three to four penalists who will be speaking on different topics.

For Forum 1 on History, Religion and Culture, the moderator is Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, while the penalists are  Sahibus Samahah Datu Haji Kipli  Bin Haji Yassin;  Datu Dr Haji Sanib Bin Haji Said;  Prof Ir. Dr Al-Khalid Bin Haji Othman and Suhana Binti Sarkawi.

For Forum 2 on Politic – The Direction of the  Sarawak Malays Post GE14,  the moderator is Hajah Sharifah Hasidah Binti Sayeed Aman Ghazali, while the penalists are  Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri;  Fazzrudin Bin Haji Abdul Rahman and  Prof Madya Dr Awang Azman Bin Awang Pawi.

For Forum 3 on  Education – The Education Direction of the Sarawak Malays Community,  the moderator is  Datuk Dr. Wan Wahbi Bin Haji Junaidi, while the penalists are  Dr Haji Annuar Bin Haji Rapa’ee;  Prof Dato Dr. Haji Jamil Bin Haji Hamali; Haji Syeed Mohd Hussein and Rakayah Haji Madon.

For Forum  4 on  Economy    The Position of the Malays Now and Future, the moderator is  Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad  Morshidi Bin Abdul Ghani while the penalists are  Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden Bin Haji Majais;  Dr.  Zaidi Razak  and Ir. Haji Syed Hossin Bin Haji Wan Hamit.

For Forum  5 on  Social  – The Foundation of Community Wellbeing , the moderator is Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Junaidi; while the penalists are  Dr. Saadiah Binti  Abdul Samat; Wan Madihi Bin Wan Salleh; and Bolhassan Iskandar  Taibi. 

In the Forum 6 on Rural Development  – Challenges and Hope,  the moderator is Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail; while the penalists are  Datuk Haji Julaihi  Bin Haji Narawi;  Datuk Talat Mahmood Bin Abdul Rashid; Datu Ismawi Bin Haji Ismuni; and Prof Madya Dr. Shahren Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.

For Forum 7 on Leadership of Sarawak Malay/Muslim NGOs,  the moderator is Hajah Rosey Binti  Haji Yunus; Dato Norhayati Mohd Ismail;  Haji Mohd Suib bin Haji Maknun; and Pandi Suhaili.

In Forum 8 on Perspective and Role of Sarawak Malay Youths, the moderator is Hazwan Bin Razak, while the penalists are Mohd Hafiz Bin Mohd;  Sharifah Shazzea Binti Wan Akil; Samsol Bin Morshidi  Bujang; and Khairul Anuar Shazali.

The official opening of the seminar on Oct 30,  will be officiated by Deputy Chief Minister  and Minister for Entrepreneurs and Industrial Development and Minister for Urban Development and Natural Resources II, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also the Chairman of AKYBMS, Sanib pointed out.

The adjournment of the Seminar will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg on Oct 31, during which the Resolutions  of the Seminar will  be presented  to the Chief Minister.
