By Liong Chai Ling MIRI: A driver was very lucky to escape a fiery death when the 4WD pickup truck he was driving laden with a few oxy-acetylene and oxygen cylinders suddenly exploded in an incident at Eastwood Industrial Estate here yesterday. In the 3.30pm incident, the 24-year-old driver managed to flee before the 4WD pickup truck was razed. Head of Miri Zone Fire and Rescue Department, Law Poh Kiong said they received a distress call on the incident at 3.41pm before a team of firefighters from Lopeng Fire Station was dispatched to the scene. “Upon arrival the firefighters found the vehicle burning before they managed to extinguish the fire,” he said. He added that the fire was successfully put out in 10 minutes and the operation ended at 4 pm. “No casualty was reported in the incident. The cause of the fire and the loss incurred are still under investigation,” Law said.
