KUCHING: A 28-year-old man, who decided to buy himself cigarettes, before attending a colleague’s birthday party at a factory on Monday, has been found dead in a drain around 8.30am yesterday.

The deceased was found with iron steel piercing through his head in a drain in Sejingkat here. Identified as Hamdani from Pontianak, Indonesia, he was said to have borrowed a motorcycle from a security guard at the factory, at around 8pm, for him to buy cigarettes from a nearby shop.

However, he never returned. There was also no sign of him when the birthday party ended, prompting his colleagues to immediately search the areas to locate him but to no avail. A son of the security guard, from whom Hamdani borrowed the motorcycle, was passing by the area yesterday when he saw a big crowd gathering near a drain and decided to stop and have a look.

He then spotted his father’s motorcycle in the drain not far from the body of a man, believed to be Hamdani.

He immediately called his father who then alerted Hamdani’s employer about the find. Police arrived at the scene later and brought the remains to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post mortem.
