Nominate your candidate for 10th state Literature Awards now

  KUCHING: State agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as all other writer’s bodies may now nominate any candidate for the 10th State Literature Awards.

 The nominations began on 7 April and will close on 18 May to allow the panel of literature to deliberate each entry.

 “If everything goes on smoothly, we will get the full list of winners by the end of August and it will be announced during the event itself.

 “The literature awards will be presented in September; the date and venue will be advised at a later time,” Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Board Member, Datu Dr Adi Badiozaman told a press conference held at DBP Sarawak yesterday.

 He disclosed that the awards were divided into four main categories, namely, State Writer’s Award (main title), Special Award for Language and Literature, Writer’s Award by Genre and Writer’s Award by Language.

 “The Writer’s Award by Genre will be divided in five genres which are Novel, Short Stories, Poem, Criticism Essay and Drama Script.

 “Meanwhile, the Writer’s Award by Language will be divided in different languages, namely, Iban, Melayu Sarawak, Bidayuh, Melanau, Chinese, English and Orang Ulu,” said Adi.

 He also said that the  10th State Literature Awards was organised in conjunction with  DBP’s 40th Anniversary Celebration. 

 “October is Bulan Bahasa Nasional, so expect a lot of events from DBP within the month,” he added. 

The event will be graced by the Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
