KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg allocated a sum of RM50,000 to the Perguruan An Nur (a Silat association) during the association’s 20th Anniversary Dinner held at Hilton Hotel here last Tuesday. Johari said the allocation was to finance part of the association’s yearly activities in promoting and uplifting the Silat art of self-defence to the society.
“Silat is not only a martial art of self-defence; it can also produce disciplined and responsible members in the course of learning and practicing it. “ I want to cong ra tul a t e Perguruan An Nur for inculcating the digital agenda among their members.
“They have been adapting the digital culture which is in line with tonight’s theme: Towards the development of world Silat in this digital era. “While using the digital technology to spread Silat, especially in the social media, we can also incorporate healthy lifestyles and positive values like respect towards the elders,” said Johari. The Chief Minister noted that there will be an International Silat event to be held in Kuching. The event is being organised by Tupong Assemblyman Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman and his Sarawak Silat Association teams.
Meanwhile, the association presented three honorary awards during the dinner: Yang Mulia Ayahanda Paduka Guru to Haji Muhammad Haneef Ali; Yang Mulia Sri Panglima Satria to former Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng; and Yang Mulia Sri Panglima Ulung to Abang Johari. Also present at the dinner was the Chairman of Perguruan An Nur, Wan Hussin Wan Ali. The Kesuma Tari Group entertained the guests with stage dance performances.
