SIBU: The Destiny for Children (DCF) Association welcomes the community’s help, especially with regard to funding.

The charitable non-governmental organisation (NGO), which was set up here in 2012, has provided education, especially to stateless children.

Receiving donations amounting to RM2,100 which were proceeds from the sale of balloon flowers at the recent The Stage 3.0, DFC principal Pauline Rogers saidthis was a big contribution from the community.

“This is not just a work of a party or just a work of a group of people, but it is a contribution from the community towards DFC,” she said after the donation handover on today (April 13).

The donation was presented by Yartist Club chairman Johnson Ling, witnessed by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.

Pauline said the school not only provided the children with basic education but also served as a place of hope where the stateless children could build their self-esteem and self-worth.

“They might not be able to get their documents (birth certificate or identification card), but they can still come out being a responsible adult to the community and at least contribute to the workforce.

“So, that’s why DFC has to go on. If DFC is closed, where would these children go? So, I feel that they are safer here.  It’s a nice contribution to our DFC.

“As teachers and principal, we will run the school in a responsible and accountable manner. Thank you so much for the support,” she said.

Meanwhile, when asked about the number of students who applied for the temporary document for individuals without citizenship, Pauline said that 10 to 20 out of 104 had applied.

However, due to several reasons, their applications have yet to be processed but the parents are working hard to ensure that their children can get the documents for their children’s future.

“So, even though these children are without documents, they are safer here. That is why we need the community here to work with us to protect these children. We do not want any harm to happen to them.”
