KUCHING: In light of the increasing Covid-19 cases in the state, the Kuching Evangelical Church (BEM/SIB) will be suspending its church services for four weeks beginning March 22 onwards.

Pastor Brian King said the church would try to make alternative arrangements such as having the sermons livestream on its Facebook page.

“For today (March 15), Sunday services will still continue. However, additional measures will be implemented,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said seating arrangements would be changed to allow more space between individuals and the service as a whole would be a shorter.

“The offering will not be passed around, but baskets or boxes will be made available instead for people to put in,” he said, adding that refreshments were cancelled as well.

He added those who were sick, elderly, had travelled overseas recently, or were immuno-compromised including front-liners such as health workers were advised not to attend today’s service.

“We are grateful for all our healthcare workers working around the clock during this time of anxiety and uncertainty. Please keep them in prayer,” he said.

King also said all meetings, prayer meetings and youth group meetings were officially cancelled during this period.

“We will continue to try to provide updates via WhastApp, Facebook page and on our website,” he said.

He said the church would decide when to resume the services when the situation improved.

“We continue to encourage all to pray, for faith, wisdom and love for our church in equal measure, and that the Lord Jesus be glorified in this,” he said.
