No clue on missing foreigner

Bomba personnel and others from various agencies search the river for any sign of the victim.

NIAH: An individual reportedly went missing at Ladang Kuala Suau, Sungai Telong, Batu Niah. As such a search and rescue (SAR) operation was conducted.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Operation Centre (Bomba), the plantation manager reported the incident to the police at 12.55pm today.

The incident was subsequently handed over to Bomba from Batu Niah station, adding that the victim, Mohamad Sapie, 37, an Indonesian national, had gone missing since 8pm on Tuesday.

“Preliminary measures have been taken. Our firemen have arrived at the last known position of the victim near Sungai Telong.

“Our search operation commenced at 1.50pm involving other agencies to search for the victim at the river using boats,” it said in a statement.

The search radius is within one kilometre upstream and one kilometre downstream of the river.

Due to failure of finding any lead or evidence regarding the victim, the operation was suspended at 6.30pm today. It will be continued today, said the statement.
