SIBU: Socso contributors have been advised not to make any fraudulent claims as they will be prosecuted in the court of law if they are caught. Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) would not hesitate to charge any individuals if they are caught making false claims.

He said this yesterday after the CCID charged Ngu Kwong Teck, 37, after he was caught cheating Socso last March 6 for submitting false information in his application to make an accident claim. Investigations revealed that the accused suffered a broken left leg at his home instead of from a road accident last Feb 18.

The Magistrate’s Court had on Thursday sentenced the accused to one year’s jail under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and fined him RM1,500 under Section 182 of the same code for making a false police report so that he could make a Socso claim.
