No foul play in watery death of medical specialist

KUCHING: A medical specialist who was reported missing on June 3, was found afloat in the Sarawak River along Kuching Waterfront on Wednesday.

The deceased identified as Ting Yung Chuan, 37, from Jalan Kempas was found floating in the water by a passerby at about 6.20am.

Sources disclosed that a police report was lodged on a missing person by the deceased’s wife on June 3, after he failed to return home.

The state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was called in to provide assistance to fish out the body, clad in dark pants and a black T-shirt.

According to the police, there was no sign of foul play and the case has been classified as sudden death.

Police managed to identify the identity of the decomposing body from his personal documents in his wallet found in the back of his pants.

The victim’s wife also confirmed that the body was of her husband during the identification process at 10am.

A post-mortem was carried out at around 3pm at the Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) morgue.
