BALINGIAN: The three recently discovered oil and gas fields in Sarawak — Baram Delta, Centra Luconia and Balingian will certainly provide a positive impact to Balingian right up to Miri, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The oil and gas operation in Balingian may require a certain base or a platform in Mukah and Balingian.

“However, it is still too early (to say) as we can only tell once Petroleum Nasional Berhad (Petronas) carry out their activities.

“But at least you have a core infrastructure and that is what we want to develop,” he said in a press conference after witnessing the handing over of documents for the just completed Medan Selera Metading project here on Sunday (April 11).

He added the discovery of the oil and gas fields in Balingian would also have a good effect on the development of Balingian and the whole of Mukah.

On March 30, Petronas announced a new oil and gas discovery in the Sirung-1 wildcat exploration well under Block SK405B Production Sharing Contract (PSC), which is located in the shallow waters of the Balingian province, about 237 kilometres off the coast of Miri.

While on Feb 10, the national oil company confirmed a gas discovery at the Lang Lebah-2 exploration appraisal well in Block SK410B PSC located in Central Luconia, 80km off the coast of Sarawak.
