One death, 290 positive cases

KUCHING: The state recorded 290 Covid-19 positive cases today (Apr 3) bringing the total number of cases to 17,135 to date.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said, 86 cases were reported in Kuching; Bintulu (81); Miri (36); Sibu (22); Serian (20); Samarahan (seven); Kapit and Subis (six each); Julau (five); Bukit Mabong (four); three cases each in Meradong and Marudi ; Sarikei, Selangau, Sri Aman and Tebedu each recorded two cases while Tanjung Manis, Tatau and Belaga had one case each.

“Out of the total, 63 people showed signs and were symptomatic of Covid-19 during their screening,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded one fatality today from Bintulu Hospital bringing the Covid-19 death toll to 113 cases.

“The death involves a 50 year old local man who was found unconscious by a family member in their house. He was taken to the Bintulu Hospital Emergency Department by his family.

“He was pronounced dead on March 29 and his rT-PCR came back positive. The deceased had no comorbidity,” SDMC added.

The committee revealed that 226 patients had recovered and allowed to be discharged.

“Miri and Bintulu hospitals both recorded 48 patients discharged; Sibu Hospital (39); Covid-19 treatment and quarantine centres (PKRC) Serian (32); Sarawak General Hospital (25); Sarikei Hospital (21); PKRC Kapit (12); and PKRC Mukah (one).

“This brings the total number of positive Covid-19 cases that have recovered or allowed to be charged to 14,244 people or 83.13 percent of the total Covid-19 cases in the state,” the committee said.

The number of active cases still receiving treatment and are isolated at PKRC and hospital wards remain at 2,721 people.

A total of 290 new Patient Under Investigation (PUIs) were reported today and one PUI is awaiting laboratory test results.
