One killed, five injured in collision

MUKAH: A lorry-car collision that occurred at KM69, Jalan Mukah-Selangau today left a man dead and five family members injured.

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu who confirmed the case, said the incident happened around 6am when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

“Investigations found that the car, with a family of six on board, was attempting to overtake a lorry but failed as it crashed head-on with a 10-tonne lorry coming from the opposite direction. It was transporting fertiliser from Bintulu to Sibu.

“As a result of the fatal collision, the driver identified as Moses Puso, 47, was trapped along with his wife and son while his three daughters managed to be rescued by passers-by,” said Naga.

The trapped victims were successfully extricated from the car by Selangau firemen using special tools.

However, Moses was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and his body was brought to Mukah Hospital for further actions.

He pointed out that the victim’s wife, 36, and 10-year-old son sustained severe injuries and his daughters aged between eight and 15, only sustained minor injuries. All of them were taken to Selangau Clinic before referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.

He added that the lorry driver along with his passenger escaped without any injuries in the early morning accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
