KUCHING: One Covid-19 positive case was detected on Monday (Jul 13), bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases statewide to 580.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the case was an imported case involving a 59-year-old Indonesian man.

He said the patient was a ship crew of LNG Jupiter, which left Himeji, Japan on June 23 for Singapore and arrived in the state on July 3 with a crew of 30.

“The patient underwent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testings in Indonesia on June 16 and at Kansai International Airport in Japan on June 22. Both tests   came back negative.

“He started having diarrhoea and fainted on July 3 upon entering Singapore waters. On the same day, when docking in Singapore, he complained of having a fever, breathing difficulties, and headaches,” Uggah said when delivering SDMC’s daily Covid-19 update on Monday (Jul 13).

He said that on July 11, when the ship was near Bintulu waters on its way to Sabah, the patient’s breathing difficulties worsened and he was taken to Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) in Bintulu where he was tested for Covid-19.

“The patient was then brought to Bintulu Hospital when the rapid test kit (RTK) testing came back positive for Covid-19,” added Uggah.

He announced that Bintulu was currently still a green zone as the newly detected case was an imported case.

Uggah said as there were also no newly discharged Covid-19 patients, the total number of discharged patients remained at 552 or 95.17 percent.

“There are nine Covid-19 patients currently receiving treatments at isolation wards in hospitals throughout Sarawak, with the total number of deaths at 18 or 3.11 percent,” he added.

There are also 12 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) cases and two is currently awaiting laboratory test results.

On the statewide monitoring of standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance, he said the surveillance team comprised of 719 personnel had inspected 1,845 locations which include 190 supermarkets, restaurants (349), factories (12), banks (154), government offices (67), hawker centres (38), markets (205), places of worship (88), recreational areas (64), construction sites (13), and others (665).
