SEMATAN: The Sarawak Rivers Board (LSS) continues its initiative to ensure the safety of water users and prevent river pollution in the state.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said that the agency has organised the ‘Friends of Rivers’ campaign to raise awareness about river cleanliness and safety.

“Among the efforts to ensure maritime safety in Sarawak waters is that LSS consistently ensures that navigational aids are maintained optimally according to schedules and requirements.

“In addition, enforcement activities, including inspections, investigations, and joint operations with several strategic partners, are also conducted to ensure safety in the waters is at a satisfactory level,” he said when officiating at the River Safety and Cleanliness Awareness programme held recently.

Henry also urged fishermen and water sports enthusiasts to cultivate the habit of wearing life jackets when in the water as a routine for their safety.

Furthermore, he said that LSS also provides facilities for the maritime community, such as jetties and passenger terminals here.
