KUCHING: A teenager who showed off his prowess in performing dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunts was promptly arrest by the police.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the 17-year-old was arrested during Ops Samseng Jalanan (Road Bully) carried out at Jalan Setia Raja, here on yesterday (June 30).

The operation from 4.00pm to 11.50pm involved the Kuching District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division team together with the Kuching District Community Prevention and Safety Division and the Tabuan Jaya Police Station.

“The suspect was detained and taken to the Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) for further action for performing a ‘wheelie’ stunt.

“He faces a fine of RM5,000 not exceeding RM15,000 and imprisonment of not less than five years and disqualified for a driving license for up to five years if convicted under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today (Jul 1).

Ahsmon said a total of 13 motorcycles were also seized in the operation for various offences such as exhaust modifications, fancy licence plates among others.

He added that a total of 50 summonses were also issued for various traffic offences.
