KUCHING: The nation must stay optimistic and hoping that the global economy will continue to recover in 2023, said political observer Datuk Peter Minos.

He stressed that majority of renowned economists had predicted a hard and difficult period in 2023 with high inflation even recession raging on, with the Ukrainian war bringing death and destruction to the Ukrainians and a nuclear threat to the world.

However, Minos hoped that somehow peace will come about between Russia and Ukraine.

He stressed that the people have had enough of COVID-19 in 2020, 2021 and the early parts of 2022.

“People are happy and relieved that COVID-19 was defeated and we Malaysians want speedy economic recovery and also normalcy in our lives and nation.

“As many repeatedly said, we really seek and want political stability and peace in Malaysia.

“People are fed up and sick of years of political squabbles and quarrels and wish for full economic recovery and social stability,” he said.

Minos has asserted that Malaysians are also sick of those few in our society who play politics applying racial and religious issues.

He pointed out that Malaysians have had enough of those racial and religious extremists and bigots.

“We really want Malaysia to be a nation of moderation and harmony among the many races with many religious faiths,” he said.

Minos, who is also Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman, describes Malaysia as a country living in a big ship and stressed that Malaysians must live in peace and harmony at all times, and if not, the ship will sink in a storm and the people of Malaysia will all perish.

“As we all do know, Sarawak and Sabah are pretty happy that the federal government at long last is now trying to treat the two Malaysian regions with fairness and justice and with respect.

“Past is past and now is time for our nation to play fair and just to all, to Sabah and Sarawak, to the economically struggling small communities and minorities and to the weak and poor.

“We cannot have a nation where some live in unhappiness, pain and suffering while some are having it too good. Social justice must prevail as this is good to our nation, now and in the long-run,” he emphasised.

Minos has also hoped and prays that 2023 will usher in real political stability, fast economic recovery and the nation living in genuine peace and serenity.
