THE Malaysia Family Sales Programme has received a lot of positive responses from Simunjan residents who have been informed that it was aimed at helping to lighten their burden caused by the increasing prices of daily necessities.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri visited the venue at the Dewan Mesra Simunjan car park last Friday (Feb 18).

While she was there to watch what was going on, especially the responses of shoppers to the prices that were 20 per cent lower than elsewhere, she bought a few items.

Among the basic food items on sale were sugar, flour, cooking oil, chicken eggs.

The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) brought in farm produce while the Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) supplied the seafood.

Many people were seen buying drinks, detergent, soap and other basic household items because they were being sold at cheaper prices.

Following are some of the public comments on the programme.

The Malaysian Family Sales Programme is a very good initiative, especially for rural folk like us. If possible, a programme like this should be organised once a month as it really helps to alleviate our burden. The prices of goods are cheaper than in the market.

I come from Serian because I know the prices of basic goods here are cheaper. Take rice for example. In the supermarkets, a 10-kg bag costs almost RM30 but here, it costs slightly more than RM20. I hope that this programme can be held more frequently and cover other areas including Serian.

It is quite hard to find cooking oil in the market but here we can buy it at a low price. Chicken eggs are also available. However, we have to be patient because of the long queues due to the need to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The shortage of chicken eggs and packet cooking oil has affected residents in the Simunjan area. These items are available here and cheaper. I come here because I saw the ads and info on social media.
