SARATOK: A total of 129 orphans and 88 needy children (asnaf) have received food baskets ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri handed over the food baskets to the recipients from Kupang, Paloh and surrounding areas in his constituency.
He said the charitable gesture was one of the noble demands of the month of Ramadan.
“I am honestly excited to meet this special group because I believe it can make them happy.
“At least they can celebrate Raya in a more festive atmosphere. There will be food on the table,” he said after the programme here yesterday.
He hoped the assistance will ease their burden.
In addition to food basket donations from Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), he also donated 111 bags of 10-kg rice to be distributed to household heads.
Saratok Islamic Welfare Trust (Lakis) Chairman, Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz, and a group of community and ethnic leaders were also present at the ceremony.
