KUCHING: The Kuching City South Council (MBKS) is studying ways to prevent fish from dying at the Malaysia-China Friendship Park pond at Jalan Song, here.

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng acknowledged that dead fish were found in the pond recently.

“We went to the site and also went through the findings of a report. Among the reasons were over-feeding, overcrowding due to additional fish being added into the pond, and expired bread thrown into the pond to feed the fish,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted yesterday (March 1).

He suggested that to prevent overfeeding, there had to be a control of the feeding and feeding time of the fish.

“We will also need to control the food that is being fed to the fish. Also, the public will not be allowed to simply put their fish into the pond.

“So, we will discuss what is best to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.
