KUCHING: Julau MP Larry Sng is worried to see residents from Pakan having to queue up to get permission for inter-district travel.

“This should not have happened,” he said in response to a posting that went viral on Facebook which saw some 100 residents from Pakan lining up just to obtain permit from the police yesterday.

Sng, who is also the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman said there is no automated teller machine (ATM) in Pakan and due to that he had already spoken to the chief operating officer of Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) Kameel Abdul Halim on July 8, 2019 to look into the matter.

“The bank wanted the population demographics which my staffs have provided them. We are still waiting for their response up till today,” he said.

He said he had asked the bank to set up a branch in Julau and an ATM in Pakan.

“I have also raised this issue in Parliament in 2018 and last year,” he said.

When asked why he brought up the issue of the need to have a fuel station in Pakan, he said the federal government has approved it last year.

“Federal approvals for the petrol station have been obtained last year. One for Julau town and one for Pakan town.

“Currently, it is pending approval from the State Planning Authority (SPA),” he said.
