SARATOK: The sport of “pangkah gasing,” will now be an annual feature at the Saratok Festival.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri was pleased with the inclusion of this traditional game in the festival’s main lineup this year.

He strongly supported the promotion of “pangkah gasing” among the younger generation.

Duri emphasised the importance of preserving our cultural heritage for it to remain relevant and remembered by the community.

He shared a Malay proverb that illustrates the need to protect our national heritage: “Just as it does not get wet in the rain and does not dry out in the heat (tak basah dek hujan, tak lekang dek panas).”

Mohamad said this during the opening ceremony of the Pangkah Gasing Kalaka Competition at the Saratok Festival 2023 recently.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Kenyalang Gasing Club.

He said that through events like this, we can preserve the ancient heritage of traditional games and keep them popular even in today’s modern age.
