KUCHING: The pedestrian pathway under Darul Hana Bridge, next to Dataran Ibu Pertiwi, is temporarily closed to the public.

Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) mayor Hilmy Othman said the closure was to protect the electrical and mechanical equipment of the musical fountain.

“If there is a need to reopen the pathway, certain aspects need to be examined first.

“We (DBKU) have to take the approach of cordoning off the area initially to protect the equipment from any form of vandalism,” he said at a press conference at Metrocity Matang here yesterday.

Hilmy added that the musical fountain equipment is highly sensitive, and any damage could disrupt its functionality.

“For now, it is not right for us to leave it exposed to the threat of vandalism.

“The musical fountain equipment should be safeguarded by DBKU,” said Hilmy.
