BINTULU: The name of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate who will be fielded in the Jepak by-election is expected to be announced after the Election Commission (EC) meeting.

GPS chairman and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said GPS will field a candidate from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) to defend the seat in the by-election.

“We will field a candidate through PBB,” he said when asked by reporters on the shortlisted candidate for the seat, today.

Earlier, EC in a statement said that a Special By-Election Meeting will be held for Jepak seat on Sept 25.

The meeting is to be held after the EC has received an official notification from State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar on the unexpected vacant seat.

The meeting will be chaired by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh.

Important dates such as the date of the Election Writ, Candidate Nomination Day, Voting Day, and other preparations to carry out for the election will be discussed during the meeting.
