BINTULU: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) Women wing wants a huge vote majority win in the forthcoming Jepak by-election.
PBB Women chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this will reflect the solid support of the people for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Iskandar Turkee.
“Don’t just take this as a by-election, this is an election with great implications because it shows the people’s support for GPS.
“When their support is a big majority, it will show that we are united to ensure what our Premier and the coalition is fighting for the well-being of the people, can be carried out very well,” she said when asked to comment on the GPS Manifesto for Jepak by-election today (Oct 29).
Regarding the number of voters in Jepak, she acknowledged that the number has increased four times and it is a very big increase.
Fatimah pointed out that it does not just cover those who turned 18, but also those are over the age of 18 who have not registered as voters before.
“This becomes a big challenge for us, especially the women machinery to track these voters.
“Hard work is carried out at all levels, whether at the branch or grassroots level, to ensure that these new voters know where they are as voters, at what time they must be present before the voting centre closes.
“In the meantime, we must not forget the senior citizens because we see from the breakdown of voters, some belong to the senior citizen category,” she said.
Therefore, the women machinery needs to remind them about the GPS logo, so that there will be no confusion when they cast their votes later.
She added that the biggest challenge for the women machinery is to track voters and make sure they go out to vote and not be complacent.
“If they don’t go out to vote, this will affect the voter turnout and also the majority later,” she said.
PBB Jepak Women chief Noriha Ali, meanwhile, said the women machinery is the main pillar behind the house-to-house campaign and hoped that all the voters in Jepak will go out and vote.
