KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing has expressed disapproval against violence and brutality, particularly targeting women and children within conflict and war settings.

PBB Women chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said violence against vulnerable groups in the ongoing conflict and war in Palestine is inhumane and unacceptable.

She added that women and children often bear the brunt of the consequences of war.

“The attack towards civilians which causes suffering especially among the women and children needs to be prevented.

“Women and the children who are in the middle of the armed conflict or emergency situation should not also be denied shelter, food, medical assistance and other basic rights as well,” she said.

She said this in her speech during the PBB Women’s Supreme Council meeting held at the Penview Hotel here yesterday evening (Dec 1).

The Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister said there is a challenge in upholding the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in extreme violence situations.

“Efforts to adhere to the law should remain a top priority, addressing urgent necessities,” she added.

Fatimah also encouraged organisations and individuals to extend support through donations while adhering to IHL principles and providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians affected by the conflict.

PBB Women vice chief III Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali was also among those present during the meeting.
