PBDSB permanent chairman passes away

KUCHING: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) permanent chairman Mengga Mikul passed away on Wednesday (May 25).

His demise was confirmed by the party president, Bobby William, in a statement yesterday.

Mengga, 67, was admitted to the hospital on May 23 after he complained of having chest pain. He passed away at around 7.45pm two days later.

He left behind his wife, Juliana Limban and four children to mourn his loss.

After he retired from the Forestry Department, Mengga was active in politics.

He was in PBDS and joined Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) after PBDS was deregistered in 2004.

He became a PBDSB member in 2019 and was appointed as the party’s permanent chairman until his demise.

He was the first president of Dayak National Congress (DNC), holding the post from 2014 to 2017.

He was also a past president of Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) and the president of Balang Balai Nyabong, a Dayak based non-governmental organisation (NGO).

According to Bobby, Mengga was well-liked by friends and strangers alike for his friendly demeanour and ever-ready smiles.

Those wishing to pay their last respect to him can come to his house at No. 53, Taman Shing Yu, Jalan Batu Kawa, Kuching.

He will be laid to rest at St. Basil, Anglican Cemetery Saturday (May 28).
