KUCHING: Given the importance of the oil and gas industry in the economy of Miri Division and Sarawak in general, the government has made Covid-19 vaccination mandatory for all citizens, including oil and gas  personnel.

The Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has urged all staff working in the  industry to get vaccinated.

“This includes those working onshore, offshore, daily trippers, non-daily trippers, sign on, sign off, off duty, and employees under quarantine,” Miri DDMC said on Thursday (July 29).

Meanwhile, Miri DDMC asserted that staff quarantined at the Offshore Transit Centre (OTC), rigs, or ships who have not yet received a vaccination appointment, should schedule a special appointment with the Lutong Oil & Gas Industrial Vaccination Centre (PPVIN).

It added that the oil and gas industry is advised to use Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) to oblige its employees to get vaccinated as an internal company rule.

On another note, individuals residing in Miri District who have yet to receive the vaccine, particularly those aged 18 and above or those who have not yet reached the age of 18 but were born in 2003, are encouraged to walk-in to any of the three vaccination centres (PPV) in Miri, namely Eastwood Hall PPV, Curtin University PPV, and Dato Lee Teck Fook PPV at Riam Road Secondary School from 9am to 5pm.
