KUCHING: A total of RM2.4 million have been spent for flood relief by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and its corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm, Yayasan PETRONAS.

The assistance was given in the form of essential item packages, where out of the 10,000 provided, 1,000 packages are allocated for Sarawak, with each package containing blankets, towels, and personal care products.

In announcing this, PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mantali said the company has viewed its presence in Sarawak as more than just an oil and gas partner.

“PETRONAS serves the bigger purpose as a progressive energy and solutions partner to Sarawak, while enriching lives for a sustainable future.

“For us, true partnership will successfully create value and solutions more than just monetary worth of its underlying commercial transactions,” he said during the Stakeholder Appreciation Night held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Friday night (Feb 2).

A symbolic handover ceremony for the flood relief assistance was held during the event where Yayasan PETRONAS Planning and Services senior manager Khairunissa Ghazali presented the packages to Social Welfare Department (JKM) Kuching divisional officer Norhayati Abdul Rahman.

The gift cards were presented by Zulaihi to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), represented by Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) deputy director Datuk Clarence Rorote Sagan.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Datuk Hussain and PETROS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Hamid Bugo.
