KUCHING: Physical disability does not hinder individuals from making valuable contributions to society and engaging in heroic and selfless deeds.

For visually-impaired couple, Tazlan Jen and Nur Athirah Voon Abdullah, they both have donated blood for the tenth and eleventh times respectively, driven by their shared intention to assist patients in need.

“Donating blood also serves as one of the ways to support our hospitals.

“It is advisable for young people to take this opportunity to donate blood, as in my case, I can be considered too old to donate.

“Therefore, it is best for young individuals with good health and eligibility to donate blood,” said fifty-year-old Tazlan, who hails from Kota Samarahan.

Tazlan and Nur Athirah were among the 41 recipients who received special certificates for their contributions in donating blood in conjunction with the World Blood Donation Day Sarawak State Level and 75th anniversary of Malaysia Red Crescent held at The Spring Shopping Mall here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, for fifty-seven year old Anuar Oloi, he had donated blood for 122 times with the most recent donation in June at Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank.

“I donate blood for the satisfaction of being able to help those in need.

“My health is still good until now, even though I am already 57 years old. Before and after donating, I observed positive changes in my health.

“I will continue to donate blood for as long as I can,” he said.

On the other hand, Ani Nios, a 62-year-old who uses a wheelchair, expressed her pride in having donated blood 62 times.

“Despite not having much money or wealth to donate, this is my way of assisting those who are struggling.

“I consistently donate blood and I will make sure to donate again after three months.

“After donating, I feel healthier and more energized. I can resume my regular activities without any issues,” said Ani, who was a former paralympic athlete.
