SARIKEI: Plans are underway to introduce a ferry service linking Bukit Huang-Parit Bugis-Muara Payang to Tanah Putih, serving as a centre point to connect them to the Pasi-Tanjung Manis Road.

Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said discussions are underway with Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo on this development.

“The introduction of the ferry service aims to enhance the accessibility and convenience for residents, particularly those living in longhouses in Muara Payang, which is situated less than 7km from the proposed ferry site.

“In terms of population, Bukit Huang is predominantly inhabited by the Chinese community, Parit Bugis by the Bugis Malay Community, and Muara Payang by the Iban Community,” he was quoted as saying in a UKAS report during a work visit to the Batang Rajang Bridge site project yesterday (Feb 20).

Len, who is Kuala Rajang assemblyman, added that currently, the primary mode of transportation for residents is through private boats or by existing waterway routes to reach Sarikei town.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) and my ministry are currently in the process of completing this ferry facility as soon as possible since the Batang Rajang Bridge project is almost completed,” he said.

Looking ahead, Len stressed the need for long-term development planning, including the construction of bridges to ensure connectivity across all areas within the Kuala Rajang constituency.
