KUCHING: To this day, over 50,000 residents in the Demak Laut constituency have enjoyed the benefits of planned infrastructure development, thanks to the state government.

“These include roads, water and electricity supply, schools, clinics, new housing areas, bridges, recreational facilities and economic opportunities,” said Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

“The Bako Bridge, which was completed in 2018, has greatly benefitted the residents of Bako and the surrounding areas, whereas the Tanjung Bako-Sejingkat Bridge is currently under construction,” he said.

Furthermore, he said the three Spektra Housing Projects in Muara Tebas, Muara Tabuan, and Sejingkat which had been approved by the state government to meet the needs of the people and were now in the process of implementation.

“Leisure facilities such as futsal courts, sepak takraw, and football fields are also provided. In addition, the proposed construction of the Bako Food Court and stalls in the villages will be implemented under the rural transformation project (RTP) this year,” he said.

He pointed out that the rural areas of Sarawak had never been marginalised or neglected, as seen through the various development initiatives of the state government.

He said this after witnessing the handover of the Kampung Muara Tebas New Lot Road Construction Project valued at RM300,000 on Thursday.

The project began on Jan 7 and is now 50 percent done and is expected to be fully completed by Mar 31.

Dr Hazland said in the past ten years, many positive changes had been implemented in Demak Laut through the repair and upgrading of infrastructures for the comfort and wellbeing of residents.

“All these development projects are for the people and we want every citizen to use these opportunities to improve their living standards and socioeconomic circumstances.

“This is the intention of the Sarawak government, that wants the people in rural areas to also enjoy fair development similar to the urban regions, so that the development gap can be reduced,” he said.
