KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Sarawak leadership for maintaining peace and harmony in the state.

He said despite the existence of divisive elements, the situation in Sarawak was under control.

“This is the time for Malaysians especially those in West Malaysia, who stir, create misunderstanding between races and extreme religious sentiments to learn from Sarawak’s experience and strength in unity,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the Gawai Dayak 2023 celebration held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), here last night.

Anwar also said that with the strong commitment of the state leadership under Abang Johari, Sarawak has achieved another higher level in several fields compared to other states in Malaysia.

“Putrajaya is left behind in several fields including green technology, hydrogen, ammonia and all of this has been implemented by Abang Johari.

“I talk about this not that I am jealous, but what I said now are the realities in Sarawak. He has brought Sarawak to another level and more advanced from other states.

“Therefore, it is our responsibility to strengthen the unity that we have as with a strong unity we can build this country,” he said.

He said he was not to over praise Abang Johari but to categorically state that the unity, support and harmony that existed here were being utilised to the full.

“It is for the benefit of its people, and I had seen personally myself. And that is why I am proud to say, I have the intention to work closely with Abang Johari, to bring not only Sarawak but Malaysia to a greater height in the near future,” he added.
