PADAWAN: The Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) is taking a strong stance against food and beverage businesses that don’t keep their premises clean.
PMC chairman Tan Kai said that if food premises don’t follow personal hygiene rules like keeping nails short and wearing proper clothes, they could be fined RM100 for each offence.
Also, any food premises that are dirty and have pests like cockroaches and rats will be shut down right away, he said.
Tan Kai said this to reporters after completing the Food Premises Health, Environment, and Hygiene Programme at PMC here yesterday.
“If they need help with cleaning the drains, they can ask the council,” he said.
According to him, some premises had to close down this year because they were not clean. For them to reopen, they need to clean up well and pass an inspection.
Tan Kai said that there are more than 300 licensed food places under the council’s rules. Most of them have a Grade B status, which means they are okay but can be better. About 100 are Grade A, which is good, and only a few have Grade C, which is not so good.
“We want the food premises taking part in this programme to get better and reach Grade A. And we want the Grade C places to become Grade B,” he said.
